February 18 , 2022 - February 24 , 2022

“ঐ”/ “Oyee”A Collective Curiosity is a collaborative typography art project curated by architect Muhammad Nafisur Rahman and artist Bishwajit Goswami. Rooted in a shared fascination with letterforms, the project explores the many facets of Bengali script, celebrating its structural beauty, expressive potential, and evolving transformations. Through a fusion of technical typography, artistic composition, and experimental methods, “ঐ”/ “Oyee” examines the intersection of design and language, paying tribute to the craft of Bengali writing.

The project was unveiled on 21st February 2022, commemorating International Mother Language Day—a moment of reflection on linguistic heritage and cultural identity.

The Brihatta Art Foundation is a research-driven initiative formed by a collective of artists. The Brihatta family believes in strengthening the bond between art, artists, and people from diverse backgrounds. It emphasises the power of creative expression, dialogue, and the expansion of ideas. With this conviction, the Brihatta family has launched the project “ঐ”“Oyee” – A Collective Curiosity", rooted in the intrinsic and historical context of the Bengali language, homeland, and the power of writing.

Architect Muhammad Nafisur Rahman and artist Bishwajit Goswami are professionally engaged in art research and education. Their deep passion for typographic art and its intimate connection has evolved into a broader humanistic appreciation. Over time, their creative curiosity has transformed into a profound expression of gratitude for the written form. This project embodies a heartfelt endeavour to honour Bengali script, enhance technical expertise, and celebrate the artistic structure, methodological expression, and transformation of Bengali typography.

With their core vision and planning, they have brought together renowned and senior typographers from diverse backgrounds, alongside contemporary artists, educators, and emerging creative minds. These individuals primarily belong to traditional urban lettering arts, yet for many years, they have been recognised as truck painters, banner painters, signboard painters, and rickshaw painters.

Notable invited artists include Ali Reza Raju, Golam Mohammad Monir Hossain, Mohammad Hafiz Sheikh, Mohammad Monir Hossain, and Sukumar Sen.. Their dedication to language structure, enthusiasm for collaboration, and commitment to clear and accessible communication are at the heart of this project.

This initiative fosters a continuous exploration of different typographic traditions, an in-depth search for underlying meanings, and an unbreakable creative process. The Brihatta space has become a hub for forging stronger connections between the Brihatta family and its participants, creating a greater collective engagement.
